Just another piece on a squad that only made it to breakeven a year ago, Sarah Schermerhorn and her team, Southwest Guilford High of High Point, North Carolina, both made dramatic strides in 2006. Schermerhorn became the team’s go-to attacker and a strong all-around player. More importantly, she was a prime ingredient in the Cowgirls’ 27-1 season, which included the second 3A title in school history. For her effort, Schermerhorn is the winner of the 2006 Molten Improvement Award and captain of our Molten Improvement First Team, comprised exclusively of current high school juniors and seniors who made dramatic improvements over the course of one year.
