Cook Sizzles as National Junior of the Year

In 2006, sophomore Lauren Cook had a spectacular year setting Lincoln Pius X. She set a state Class B assist record, led the Thunderbolts to the Nebraska state title and was second in consideration for PrepVolleyball.com’s National Sophomore of the Year honors, behind Minnesotan Brittany Chambers, who led Jordan High to a state AA title and put up eye-popping numbers in the process.

Fast forward one year. Chambers had another amazing year, leading the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro area in kills, but her team lost in the state tournament. Cook matched Chambers statistically by breaking her state assists record in 2007, PLUS she led her team to another state title. She was the best player in the state on the best team in the state. Of the 21 finalists for National Junior of the Year, Cook was the only junior to win both state Player of the Year honors AND lead her team to a state championship. For those reasons, PrepVolleyball.com recognizes Lauren Cook as its 2007 National Junior of the Year.
