Brittnay Estes soars to score in East Lake's state championship repeat on Saturday
Nationally-ranked East Lake was so confident that it would win a second
consecutive Florida state championship that after the Eagles defeated DeLand in
a Class 8A semifinal on Friday. Senior OH Brittnay
Estes lifted up her shirt, revealing the word “Repeat” scrawled on her
stomach.
On Saturday, Estes’ message became reality when the Eagles defeated Wellington,
25-16, 27-29, 25-21, 25-16, to become the first school in Pinellas County
history to win back to back titles.

Unless you’re Tallahassee Leon, which took advantage of talented senior twins Wavie and AnneMarie Chin to defeat Fort Myers on Friday night to capture the
first volleyball state title for the school.

After appearing listless in the first two sets, Evangelical Christian School
had ratcheted up its defense and was playing the kind of scrappy, opportunistic
match that had earned the Sentinels a four-set win over Miami Westminster
Christian in a Florida 3A semifinal the night before.
Westminster Christian, however, did not have a front court presence like 6-2
lefty senior Erika Thomas.
Thomas proved to be the “X” factor, recording 14 kills and six blocks Wednesday
night as The First Academy bested ECS, 25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20, to claim its
fourth consecutive state title.

Burgess culminated in a third consecutive Florida state title last night in
Kissimmee, a 25-15, 25-18, 15-25, 25-16 pounding of Orlando Bishop Moore in a
Class 4A tilt most observers thought would go the limit.

Berkeley Prep, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, and No. 11 Bishop Moore will play tonight for the
Florida 4A title after both teams won semifinal matches yesterday. Berkeley won

Moore looked very impressive in sweeping past Jacksonville Bolles.
