Quick Hits: The 18s Girls Junior National Championships hosted by USA Volleyball will be in Anaheim April 27-29, 2018. Everybody else heading to USAV’s Junior Nationals will find downtown Detroit to be their home from June 25 to July 4.

Legacy VBC, located in the Detroit area, could contend for national championships in its hometown in both the 17 Open and 16 Open divisions.

Legacy 17 Elite returns its core from the team that placed nine in 16 Open in July and will add MB Taylor Venuto from Team D’s 16s team, defender Ciara Livingway from Michigan Elite’s 16s team and 6-3 setter Kennedy Feuerborn, who led MAVS to the 16 USA title and will move from the Kansas City area after the high school season.

Legacy 16 Elite brings back setter Alexa Rousseau, libero Kennedy Dolmage and all of its big guns from the 15s team that made a splash at AAUs despite injuries and adds talented outsides Jess Mruzick and Taylor Raiola from Team D.

Legacy 18 Elite won’t be in Detroit, but it also could medal in Anaheim. Though O’Leary will be off for Michigan, Legacy won’t be hurting in the setting department as sophomore Celia Cullen, a Michigan State recruit; will lead the team. OH Abryanna Cannon, who blew up at AAUs playing for Michigan Elite; fantastic libero Hannah Grant and DS Ilyria Kalaj (Western Michigan) will also be added to a group that includes defender Maddie Appleton, middles Chandlar Duff and Lauren Wenzel and pins Maria Mallon, Abbey Malinowski and Solei Thomas.

San Francisco’s Xceleration VBC has big news. It has secured its own facility and will now be able to bring all of its teams under one roof. The club also has added former Olympian and Nevada head coach Ruth Lawanson to its staff as well as new St. Mary’s assistant coach Kyle Masterson, the former club director at Adversity out of Illinois.
