AAU Nationals Recap: SPVB Uses Experience to Win 16 Open

We jumped from AAU Nationals to USAV within a day and in the midst of it all, missed writing this article celebrating the 16 Open AAU National Champion, Sports Performance 16 Elite (SPVB), runner-up A5 Mizuno 161 Gabe, and the 12 other teams who finished in the Gold bracket on the final day in Orlando. Please forgive us. This is that article.

A year ago at the 2018 AAU National Championships, SPVB 15 Elite won the 15 Open Championship and within a couple of points, SPVB 15 C-Fed won the 15 Premier title.

As we’ve written previously (which you can read about, here), Sports Performance 16 C-Fed won the 16 Premier Championship again this year in the match prior to the 16 Open one, setting up the 16 Elite team to again do the same in 16 Open this season. In fact, for four of the players – Brooklyn Borum, Lexi Rodriguez, Zayna Meyer, and Ariel Amaya – winning the 2019 AAU National tournament made it a three-peat in the Open division.
