Ranked No. 2 nationally and the top seed in 17 Open at this past weekend’s JVA SummerFest in Columbus, local club Mintonette Sports m.71 did not receive a warm welcoming as it kicked off the two-day event.

Part of Power Pool A, No. 14 Triangle 17 Black had an answer for the higher-ranked team and prevailed in three after the sides managed to avoid one another earlier this season at Big South. The stumble behind, Mintonette didn’t trip up again, running the table and winning the next six contests, including beating No. 11 Union 17-1 Asics in three, 25-18, 23-25, 15-6, in the final. That was a rematch from Big South, when Mintonette swept but in Sunday’s clash Union proved a more difficult opponent.
