Pool Play Almost Over In New 18 Open Format

Before getting to Day 1 action at the inaugural 18 Open Championships in Milwaukee, I want to spend a few moments on the format.

While the event was cut from four days to three, the primary purpose remains the same. Teams have to break pool before anything else can happen.

With six, six-team pools, clubs have to finish in the Top 4 to advance and reach the challenge bracket.

Finishing in fourth place or better in a six-team pool offers much better odds than needing to end in the Top 3 in a nine-team pool. But things happen quickly.
