Tournament Recap: Girl’s 18s Lone Star Classic/Boy’s Southwest Classic Day 3

Championship Sunday in Austin showcased some intense play from some of the top teams in Texas on both the Girl's and Boy's courts looking to solidify their chance to play for tournament gold, and the ever-elusive USAV Junior National Championships bids.

We'd like to send another reminder to our readers of the Venom Volleyball Club out of Goodyear, Arizona, who are experiencing loss through their organization, and of the GoFundMe has been set up to assist affected families in the wake of the tragedy they've experienced.

This tournament should have been cancled or postponed state and local officals had been warning the inclement weather for weeks aimed the nor’easter hittig the east coast. these people are crazy having families drive in from all over in the dead of winter for a regional tournament. they had enough time to call it off and they should have. this leauge is a non-profit there needs to be more consideration for the players and families.

I could not have agreed more with the prior comment. Why there has been no publicity on the idiotic decision to hold this tournament is beyond me. The fact is, the tournament directors/ organizers are partially to blame for this tragedy and simple greed drove them to have it even though both state and local officials told people to avoid the roads on Thursday and Friday. Directors and organizers had options and ignored them, instead starting at 8am Friday morning when things were still frozen. About 50% of the teams were coming in from out of state and did not have all the facts when they left home. There were numerous accidents by families traveling to this event and unfortunately the Venom Volleyball families lost their loved one.
