It’s an immense understatement to say that the 16 Open division at USAV Nationals was a difficult field. Heard by all accounts, the 16s age group in general is bursting with talent!
At tournaments, I generally look at pool seeding to determine who “should” win. But, at the Girls Junior National Championship (GJNC) I quickly learned that’s not a good strategy. Unlike other tournaments throughout the season, these teams in Detroit had to overcome odds, win the big matches when it mattered most, and qualify to get there. So, in short, everyone was deserving, the Gold medal was wide-open, and we knew it would be a four-day battle until the end.
