When Munciana moved players up like Kenzie Knuckles and Melani Shaffmaster, who helped the 15s to an undefeated record within its age group last season, to the 18s this spring it carried major ripple effects within the 16s.
Imagine for a moment Knuckles and Shaffmaster returning to Munciana 16 Ninjas instead of participating with the 18s, what that might mean for the 16s age group?
We would have definitely started the season with a clear No. 1. Muncie 16s would have a huge target on its back and the talk of when will this team finally lose would be in full swing.
As it stands, Muncie’s void left the door open for last year’s 15 Open gold medalist in Indianapolis – Arizona Storm 16 Thunder – to take over being the team to beat.
But, as the loaded and power-packed field from the Triple Crown Sports Pre-Season NIT showed, the 16s age division is a free-for-all between many, many worthy contenders.
