College: PVB Breakout Performer of the Week (Sept. 12)

This freshman had her most consistent stretch of the young season.

PVB Breakout Performer of the Week (Sept. 12)

— Yossiana Pressley, Baylor, Fr, OH

Baylor and No. 31 Senior Ace Yossiana Pressley could both benefit from a bit more consistency, maybe the latter found it this past weekend in Hawaii. After losing a five-setter to the host Rainbow Wahine, Baylor upset BYU in five games. The schedule also included a victory over unranked Nevada. It’s a good sign that the Bears could travel and split a pair of matches against ranked schools in Hawaii and BYU, and Pressley could hit her stride at the same time. Pressley started off delivering 13 kills, 5 digs and 5 blocks in the four-set victory against Nevada. In the loss to Hawaii, Pressley recorded 18 kills and hit .359, adding 9 digs and 2 blocks. She was key in the upset of BYU, dropping another 18 kills with 7 digs and 4 blocks.

I would also give a nod to another player in Hawaii over the weekend, Veronica Jones-Perry, who looked like an All American against Hawaii, had 13 kills in the FIRST SET! ..whether the set was close, bad angle, anything…didn’t matter. She ended the match with 27. I think she was (understandably) tired after that first 5 set match, and cooled off facing Baylor–a fabulous match to watch. (Both matches are on YouTube.)

    Jones-Perry is with BYU.
