Of course, the final weekend of the regular season didn’t pass without any drama.
Quite the opposite.
Minnesota’s thrilling come-from-behind victory over top-ranked Nebraska not only put the Big Ten Conference title in flux, it created quite the rankings dilemma as the regular season came to a close.
When Minnesota followed by downing Wisconsin in the conference finale, it left Nebraska all alone in first place and solo possession of the Big Ten crown. Since Minnesota and Nebraska split their season series, the Cornhuskers remain at No. 1 despite the loss to the Gophers last week.
Wisconsin remained at No. 3 despite losing to Minnesota in five.
Overall, there was only one change from last week’s Top 10. With Michigan handily sweeping rival Michigan State, the Spartans tumbled from the Top 10 and landed at No. 13 this week. It allowed Stanford to move up one spot and end in the regular season at No. 10.
With the brackets released later tonight, the talk of rankings is moot at this point. Everyone (that gets picked for the field of 64) will start over at 0-0, on level playing field.
