The Top 3 (no surprise) held steady once more.
However, the race for first place in the SEC caused some upheaval this week. In the last result of the weekend from the Top 50, Missouri upset then-No. 4 Florida in five games and created a tie atop the standings. Missouri sprung the upset on the Gators last year, so it wasn’t a shocking surprise, but one that helped shake up the Top 5 as Florida tumbled a bit to No. 7.
Just because the Top 3 didn’t change doesn’t mean Minnesota didn’t get all it can handle from Michigan State, which lost on the road in Game 5, 18-16, to just narrowly miss springing that upset. Minnesota then needed five games to fend off Michigan on Sunday.
The other big news in terms of rankings was Kentucky beating Texas A&M to help be part of the first-place tie in the SEC. Other than that, the Top 25 was fairly status quo. The Pac-12 followed suit for a change, and didn’t produce any major headlines for once.
Xavier brought down then-No. 30 Marquette for the Big East upset. And TCU is getting back on track, beating Baylor not long after defeating Kansas State.
