College: PVB’s Top 50 Rankings (Sept. 11)

Penn State remains No. 1 for the second consecutive week, plus four schools join the Top 50.

If we were ranking the past three weekends, this last one would be the least active so far in terms of major results.

Still, the outcomes continue to reveal more and more. For the second straight week, Penn State holds down the top spot after getting past Stanford in five. Minnesota, the AVCA’s No. 1 team, could be the best out there. The Gophers certainly looked solid in downing Texas in four games. Any time you put three teams like Creighton, Kansas and Purdue together in the same gym it’s not surprising to see what happened there. The dreaded triangle – Purdue beats Creighton, which defeated Kansas, which topped Purdue. All three appear to be Top 15 squads so far and our updated rankings reflect as much. Meanwhile, Big Ten teams in Michigan, Ohio State, and Illinois are dropped a few spots, while Colorado State continues its march up the rankings and into the Top 25.
