Six teams in last week’s top 10 suffered losses this week, some of the shocking variety. Not BYU, which has played ranked teams in each of the first three weeks and has conquered them all. The Cougars, led by senior OH Roni Jones-Perry, move to the top of the College Top 64 this week. Stanford, which defeated Minnesota and Penn State this weekend and whose only loss is to BYU, checks in second.
The College Top 64 welcomes eight new teams to the rankings, topped by No. 29 Loyola Marymount. The Lions are 8-1, beat Auburn, Kansas and American this weekend, swept Baylor upsetter Texas Rio Grande Valley last weekend and have lost only to No. 6 Cal Poly, a match that went five sets.
Please note: PrepVolleyball.com’s College 64, which ranks 64 teams, does not strictly determine the top 64 teams in the nation; rather, it is a ranking of the 64 teams we project will play in the NCAA tournament. This unique concept both recognizes the top teams in the nation, which hail largely from the “Power 5” conferences, as well as teams from those mid-major conference and leagues that often struggle for attention. Via this ranking, we will be paying attention to how every team in every conference does week-by-week.
