If there’s anything I have learned covering college volleyball for the first time this fall, it’s that there is turmoil every week in the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences. There are so many elite teams in those conferences that a team faces a challenge ever week, often two challenges!
In that environment, it’s awfully impressive that Minnesota, Kansas and Stanford have not been touched yet in the conference loss column. The Jayhawks made the biggest move in the rankings this week after defeating Texas and Texas Tech to improve to 6-0 in the Big 12.
It will be a tough task for KU to run the Big 12 schedule unbeaten, but No. 1 BYU (WCC), No. 3 Pittsburgh (ACC) and No. 5 Cal Poly (Big West) all have a chance to do that very thing in their respective conferences. Of those three, Pitt is the one on upset alert this week with home tests versus Notre Dame and No. 20 Louisville.
Please note: PrepVolleyball.com’s College 64, which ranks 64 teams, does not strictly determine the top 64 teams in the nation; rather, it is a ranking of the 64 teams we project will play in the NCAA tournament. This unique concept both recognizes the top teams in the nation, which hail largely from the “Power 5” conferences, as well as teams from those mid-major conference and leagues that often struggle for attention. Via this ranking, we will be paying attention to how every team in every conference does week-by-week.
