Can there be any denying that the Big Ten is the deepest, baddest volleyball conference in the country? We recognize that fact this week at PrepVolleyball.com by putting seven of the B1G’s 14 teams among the top 13 in the College Top 64!
In the pre-season, our Insider predicted the fall finish in the Big Ten as: Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan, Purdue. Midway through the conference slate, we have it: Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, Michigan, Purdue.
It won’t end that way, of course, as those teams will be beating up on each other for the next five weeks.
We also recognize the strength of the Big Ten by vaulting he conference’s top team, Minnesota, past undefeated Pittsburgh into the No. 3 spot in the rankings, this even though the Panthers had their most impressive weekend in the ACC thus far in 2018, with home wins over Notre Dame and No. 20 Louisville.
Please note: PrepVolleyball.com’s College 64, which ranks 64 teams, does not strictly determine the top 64 teams in the nation; rather, it is a ranking of the 64 teams we project will play in the NCAA tournament. This unique concept both recognizes the top teams in the nation, which hail largely from the “Power 5” conferences, as well as teams from those mid-major conference and leagues that often struggle for attention. Via this ranking, we will be paying attention to how every team in every conference does week-by-week.
