Below, PrepVolleyball.com names the THINX National Club Player of the Week, which is submitted by coaches each week. This award is given to a player who has done something special on or off the court.
For club coaches and directors to nominate a player for accomplishments made the prior week (Monday-Sunday), please email SGreen@prepvolleyball.com by 10 PM EST on the following Monday with all the relevant information.
Congratulations to this week’s recipient, Alysha Johnson, a 6-3 middle blocker from No. 27 Summit 18 Nike Blue.
Johnson, who is committed to the University of North Texas, was instrumental in helping Summit go 4-1 at the first stop of the Tour of Texas this weekend in Houston. Summit split with Club Texas Volleyball 18 Elite in Dallas at the MLK tournament the previous weekend and opened its ToT debut with a loss to CTV.
Though it was a concerning start to the weekend, Summit rebounded strongly to win the next four matches with over 100 team kills and 23 aces total. Summit defeated No. 18 Houston Juniors 18 Elite, TAV Houston 18 Black, Texas Tornados 18 Mizuno, and NL Juvenil Mayor, and finished fourth at the first Tour stop.
Johnson averaged an attack efficiency of over .700 with 14 kills and 4 big blocks. Summit will compete in the Lonestar Classic 18s Qualifier and go back to the ToT with a first-place seed.
“I love Alysha’s athleticism,” said the Mean Green head coach Andrew Palileo in a recent press release. “She has high upside as a middle but she will also have the opportunity to play some on the pins. She will bring her high academic standards to our program.”
