LIVT Day 1: The Comeback Kids Rise

Walking into the Assumption HS gym for the Louisville Invitational Volleyball Tournament (LIVT) was like coming to a club reunion at a neutral playing field. There were club directors and coaches, and teammates and rivals now playing on new teams with new rivals in high school. But through it all, I think what makes the volleyball community unique to other sports, is that everyone seemed genuinely happy to see one another. There was pride and support and fun.

Here we have representation from six states at LIVT, many of which compete in the same club region, and still, the players are happy to be playing the sport they love… perhaps with a little more incentive to defeat their club teammate.

Day 1 the tournament was played across two gyms with eight pools total. So, first I headed to Assumption to see the host team, overall No. 1 seed and Nationally-ranked No. 2 Assumption. Both coaches in Assumption’s pool at Manual and St. Ursula Academy kind of shrugged as if to say, “Tough draw on the first day.”
