In September, we reported a story about Najah Aqeel, a freshman Tennessee high school volleyball player, who was disqualified from a match simply for wearing a hijab. Since then, the Valor College Prep (Nashville, Tennessee) athlete's story has been picked up at the National level, including news networks such as CNN, and been the driving force for a nationwide rule change by the NFHS. Last month, the National Federation of State High School Associations voted to approve a new rule that would allow for wearing religious headwear without state association approval.
