2018 PrepVolleyball.com National Player of the Year: Vach Put Oviedo On Top

Oviedo’s Savannah Vach, shown setting at this year’s Under Armour All-American match, carried the Lions to Florida’s 9A state championship in 2018.

To give an idea of what Oviedo was sorting through at the beginning of the season, senior Savannah Vach found herself playing some outside, some right side and even some middle. As she said, “No one knew their positions and where they were going to play until after the preseason when we figured it out.”

A situation like that presents its own challenges and difficulties. On top of that, it’s far from the most ideal way to start the season for a program looking to return to the state finals, as Oviedo finished runner up in 2016 before missing the final four last year. Fortunately for Oviedo and Coach Jen Darty, Vach’s abilities allowed for some extra lineup flexibility this past fall.
