Benninger Secures Crown for New Castle; Wins National Freshman Honors

The pressure was on Hayley Benninger from the day she first set foot in The Fieldhouse at New Castle’s Chrysler High School. The Trojans had graduated both middles from the year before, and other than Benninger, who stood 6-0, the average team height was 5-6. If New Castle was going to have a successful year in Indiana’s largest class, Benninger was going to have to be a star.

From the very first match, the freshman carried the offensive load for the Trojans, who rode Benninger’s powerful right am all the way to a surprising state title. For her efforts, Benninger is PrepVolleyball.com’s 2007 National Freshman of the Year.
