If given the choice of picking my last or favorite meal, I’m pretty sure it would include a big, juicy steak off of my dad’s grill, combined with some home-grown vegetables (also grilled) and maybe my mom’s apple pie. It’s true, I’m a country girl at heart!
So why would I choose to write to vegetarian athletes about their protein sources?
While I am not, nor could I ever imagine being, a vegetarian myself, I have coached one this past volleyball season and am surrounded by a number of trainers and co-workers who are vegetarians or pescetarians. I have therefore had to be much more mindful of the resources and guidelines I provide others, especially as I remind them to properly recover after a tough workout or tournament weekend.
