As schools and universities have gone remote with questions about their reopening, there are even more surrounding the outlook of the upcoming year regarding athletics at all levels. We’re wondering if we will see a football season (a revenue-generating sport) and, closer to our communities, we want to know if we’ll have volleyball (a non-revenue sport).
With financial uncertainty and decisions looming, a movement to #SaveOurSports is in effect to hold onto sports including men’s and women’s volleyball programs around the country. We can’t only think about the fall, but the long-term effects of our choices. Canceling a season or a sport for even one year could put the future of certain volleyball programs, in their entirety, in jeopardy.
Led by the Intercollegiate Coach Association Coalition (ICAC), the volleyball community is asking for help to #SaveOurSports with signatures to sign the petition against cutting sports programs. Currently (at the time of publishing), over 72,000 people have signed.
