Former Clearwater Central Catholic star and current D1 Mercer University volleyball player Aliyah Waldon needs your help! The talented Tampa area student-athlete is currently battling Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that occurs when bone-forming cells grow out of control and form a malignant tumor. Waldon has graced the pages of PrepVolleyball.com throughout her high school career, and she's a player we have enjoyed watching develop into a great athlete and even greater person. We have put our support behind her recovery and treatment, and we are asking you to do the same!
According to the Waldon family and the GoFundMe page set up for her, the nine-month, intensive endeavor to recovery will include include "fertility treatments to spare her eggs for future children, multiple rounds of chemo and then surgery to place a rod in her femur along with partial hip replacement. Subsequently, she will have to undergo more chemo and possible radiation therapy to provide her the best possible outcome. This is in addition to extensive physical therapy to regain motion in her leg and hopefully get her back on the court where she belongs."
This is an opportunity for the volleyball community to come together in support and aid of one of our own. Waldon's high school alma mater, Clearwater Central Catholic, will be looking to host a game in honor of her impact on the program and to help assist in her fundraising for treatment.
Further Details and donation information is available on GoFundMe. Let's help Aliyah beat cancer and get back on the court! Her family, as well as the Tampa volleyball community, and the staff at PrepVolleyball.com appreciate your support and assistance!
