Two major tournaments happened this weekend on the high school volleyball scene: the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix and Chicago’s Asics Challenge. No. 17 Marymount won the former while No. 29 Marist captured the title in its hometown. We won’t relive those events here, but you can read more about both events below:

-- Nike ToC: Day 1 and Day 2

-- Asics Challenge: Day 1 and Day 2

We didn’t see this coming. We haven’t even written about the team who won the Blue Springs South Tournament (KS) this year, the toughest tournament of the year in the Kansas City area. Despite there being several ranked teams in attendance – No. 28 Cor Jesu Academy, No. 30 St. Teresa’s Academy, No. 57 Lafayette, and No. 13 St. James Academy – we shouldn’t have assumed one of those teams would win… especially with how high school volleyball is going so far this year!
